Something Else
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.
He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” Psalm 34:18
I wrote this song for those on a healing journey, during a season in my life when I was shaken and heartbroken by deep betrayals, and everything I held dear seemed to be crumbling.
At the same time, one of my dearest sisters in faith and a beloved prayer partner was facing one of the most confusing and difficult trials of her life. She was waiting to find out if her young husband and father of her 3 beautiful young children would live or die. He died.
For two completely different reasons, we both found ourselves asking God the same question every day: “Why?” Even now, although my friend and I—and billions of others—still wonder, our faith in God’s goodness, no matter the circumstances, continues to carry us forward.
This song is a heartfelt prayer, and as I share it with you, my hope is that it brings light to any darkness you may be traveling through (Ephesians 6:12). I pray that as you listen, you’ll find the courage to believe you will get through this, and remember—you are never alone. Please, seek out wise counsel and safe, supportive people. Don’t try to face this alone. We are designed to heal in community, and I promise you, God is working all things together for your good and His glory as we continue shining His loving light, together.
It’s okay to feel sad sometimes. As my dear friend Susie once encouraged me, “Be courageous enough to slow down.” Grief is real work, but remember, you are worth the work.
Something Else
by Juni Felix
Their faces are warm and friendly
And I know their concern is real
And I hear You softly whisper
Telling me that my heart will heal
But Father, why did this happen
Father, do you know how this feels
Father, please take this pain from me
And give me something else to feel
Like echoes all around me
They’re asking me what I need
But I can’t find the words to explain
Right now I need help to breathe
Please Father, why did this happen
Father, do you know how this feels
Father, please take this pain from me
And give me something else to feel
Embrace me
Surround me
Remind me
That my heart will smile again
Father, you know why this happened
Father, you know how this feels
Father, you feel this pain with me
And I know that someday
My heart will heal
